About Us
People Change Minds is the inclusion project which helps schools and businesses to improve the lives of LGBTQ+ people.
Our vision is a world where LGBTQ+ people have wellbeing equality i.e. the same chance of developing good mental health as non-LGBTQ+ people, enabling them to lead healthy, happy and successful lives because of who they are and not despite it.
99% of staff in schools and businesses would recommend our work to others.
What We Do
People Change Minds is an inclusion project which helps schools and businesses to improve the lives of LGBTQ+ people. We do this by offering workshops, training and seminars which help everyone to:
understand and empathise with the experiences of LGBTQ+ people
proactively create inclusive environments in school, at work and at home
react well when LGBTQ+ people come out
continue to support LGBTQ+ people after coming out
feel more confident engaging with LGBTQ+ issues and talking about them
We aim to help create a paradigm shift in the way everyone supports LGBTQ+ people, moving from a reactive approach to a proactive one - acknowledging LGBTQ+ people exist from the get-go (even if they haven’t come out) and changing our behaviour (like the language we use) to reflect that.
The project was founded by Henry Hudson in 2021 and has since gone on to work with staff, students and parents in schools and businesses around the UK. At the heart of all its work is the simple belief that human connection drives social change.
Approach
In a world where LGBTQ+ identities are increasingly politicised (particularly Trans), and debate around so-called ideology is increasingly polarised, we cut through the headlines to focus on the facts and personal stories of LGBTQ+ people, advocating for a more humane approach.
We create a non-judgemental environment where everyone can learn, recognising that each of us will have different views of LGBTQ+ issues based on our own identity, the people we know, and the culture we’ve been brought up in.
Our only agenda is to improve and safeguard the wellbeing of LGBTQ+ people. Despite the fears of some, we aren’t trying to turn anyone gay or trans; we don’t believe you can change a person’s sexuality or gender identity through education or exposure, but even if you could, we wouldn’t be doing that. We just want to enable people to be themselves, not encourage people one way or another.
All our work uses what we call the TEA model:
explaining contemporary THEORY around sexuality and gender identity, and enabling everyone to under the key issues, rooted in clinical research
creating EMPATHY with LGBTQ+ people, showing how issues show up in real life experiences
sharing ACTIONS which everyone can take to make their environments more welcoming and supportive for LGBTQ+ people
We use surveys and follow-on conversations to measure, evaluate and report on the impact of our work, so you can track the change we create.
