Helping schools to improve the lives of LGBTQ+ people, with benefits for all
SERVICES
We champion a whole school approach working with SLT, governors, staff (teaching and support), students (all ages) and parents
We can come in and work with any and all of these groups - running multiple sessions or one-off - and we are flexible on format, timing and length to fit your school’s timetable
We are always happy to design bespoke sessions to achieve your goals - get in touch to find out more
SLT Consultancy
Consultancy works closely with SLTs on a bespoke strategy; we can create a whole school plan that embeds a culture of inclusion, or we can help you address specific issues across the school community, in an effective way that brings everyone along with you.
Staff and Governor Training
Training puts all staff and governors in the shoes of LGBTQ+ students. We help them to understand students’ needs and give them the knowledge and confidence to engage with LGBTQ+ issues with the strategies to address them effectively and consistently.
Student Workshops
Age-appropriate student workshops work with all year groups as well as Pride Societies. Younger groups explore how to be an ally through use of language and supporting peers who come out, while older groups explore how to be an inclusive leader at school and in the workplace, effectively changing environments.
Parent and Carer Seminars
Seminars explain the evolving context for LGBTQ+ identities to parents and carers, outline best practice in schools and advise on how to create an open home environment where you can talk comfortably about LGBTQ+ issues with young people. We use a non-judgemental approach to bridge generational gaps.
IMPACT
99% of staff would recommend our training to other schools
91% of students said we made them more aware of the harmful impact of using negative LGBTQ+ language
90% of students said we made them feel better prepared to support a friend or peer who comes out to them
Why do this work?
Understand and comply with the Equality Act 2010, Ofsted and ISI guidance on inclusion and the new RSE curriculum, ensuring students with the protected characteristics of sexuality and gender reassignment are not wrongly discriminated against, forgotten about or excluded from the syllabus.
Fulfil your pastoral duty of care to LGBTQ+ students, ensuring issues are responded to appropriately, effectively and consistently, while complying with safeguarding
Keep up to date with best practice, ensuring the school can offer the best possible experience for students and be at the forefront of positive changes in education and society, bringing the whole school community with you
FEEDBACK
“I recommend Henry in the strongest possible terms. He spoke to all our staff for 1 hour and was absolutely first class… his messages were incredibly helpful and practical, and will help to improve the quality of support and environment that we provide for our LGBTQ+ pupils. He is certainly one of the best speakers I have heard in 20 years in education.”
Richard Amlot, Deputy Head Pastoral, King’s College School Wimbledon
“Henry came into school to talk to our whole staff about how they can make small but important changes to create a positive, inclusive and accepting environment for LGBT+ students. The subsequent feedback from staff was some of the most positive I have ever experienced. I cannot recommend Henry too highly. ”
Nick Forsyth, Head of Wellbeing, Kingston Grammar School
“Henry has run sessions with our pupils, parents, and staff and helped them understand how to support young people and become allies for them as they discover who they are. Beyond providing workshops, Henry’s knowledge and passion for change provide a valuable sounding board and guiding star for any member of senior leadership in a school that wants to enact change but doesn’t know where to start or what is possible.”
Stuart Murphy, Assistant Head Wellbeing, Surbiton High School
“One of the best CPD training sessions I have attended, as it actually gave practical advice on how to support students on a day-to-day basis.”
Teacher, Hampton School
“Pupils comment that they now feel far more aware of the issues facing the LGBTQIA+ community, and far more confident in knowing how to support a member of that community with their own personal journey. We cannot recommend Henry’s services highly enough; he would be an asset to any School.”
Alan Bird, Head & Tom Robinson, Head of PSHEE, City of London School
“Henry's workshop with our parents and carers was wonderful! His compassion and vulnerability were so powerfully underpinned by balanced, nuanced delivery. Henry's person-centred approach importantly focussed on highlighting the impact, and expectation, of rejection for LGBTQ+ young people which is so crucial for us all to remember.”
Dr Enya Doyle, Director of Inclusion, Highgate School
“The workshop was incredible and really opened my eyes to the struggles of a LGBTQ+ person”
Year 12 Student, Colfe’s School
“the best talk on diversity we've had”
Year 11 Student, Emanuel School
“I really enjoyed the workshop and found it very helpful to reflect on my own behaviour and how I can change to be more inclusive.”
Year 9 Student, Surbiton High School
